15 students running for seats on SG senate

The Crow’s Nest sent questionnaires to Student Government Senate candidates asking about their campus involvement, why they decided to run, and what their priorities would be if elected. Read what those who responded had to say before voting, from March 5 through March 8.

 

Brian Bauroth
Sophomore biology major
Current SG senator, Musician Society

Why did you decide to run for senate?
I want to run for senate because I can and will make a difference at USFSP through a better functioning Student Government.

Priorities if elected?
Budget process, student awareness and more events on campus.

Current SG senator, Spectrum Mentor Program, Project 10 Sting Ray, Trio SSSS, Sex and Relationship Club

Why did you decide to run for senate?
I would like to help the students and expand the campus more into the community.

Priorities if elected?
Find new ways to communicate to more students and to get them motivated and involved, and receive more of the students’ ideas to better the campus. The ideas I retrieve will become my new projects throughout the year.

Current SG senator, Student Services and Audits committee chair

Why did you decide to run for senate?
I ran for Senate because I would like to make a difference in our school, our community and give our students a voice. I am here for the students.

Priorities if elected?
Communication about events, more events for the residents as well as the commuters, and finally helping our campus become one of the best in the USF system.

Brandi Murphy
Senior environmental science and policy major
Current SG senator, SEAS activities coordinator, Gardening Club, Entrepreneurship Club, Gay-Straight Alliance, Juggling Club

Why did you decide to run for senate?
Since my first year in SG I have learned what is expected and how to perform as an effective, exemplary senator and I would like to continue to lead as a voice of the students and a positive representative of SG in our community.

Priorities if elected?
I would like to work with clubs on collaboration and development. Community outreach is very important to me, as we are right in the middle of one of the greatest cities that I know. I would like to continue to spread knowledge of and implement practical time managing and energy conserving practices within SG in order to maximize our productivity and efficiency.

Why did you decide to run for senate?
It has been tough watching on the sidelines in my two semester absence. The students need a voice again.

Priorities if elected?
Campus Unity(U). Service(S). Follow-through(F).

Why did you decide to run for senate?
I enjoy being a senator and representing USFSP students.

Priorities if elected?
Proactive green initiatives, better communication of SG topics to students, and helping the atmosphere of the campus become more social and exciting.
