We’ve all had our fair share of ordinary Mexican food. But St. Petersburg’s Casita Taqueria, or “little house,” place is anything but ordinary. Casita’s dedication to fresh quality ingredients is easy to taste in the food. Just in the homemade guacamole alone, the finely chopped pieces of red onion and chunks of freshly ripened tomatoes explode with flavor after each bite.
The owners wanted to create a place where people of all ages could relax, experience a bit of Mexican culture and enjoy traditional delicacies from Mexico such as Barbacoa flautas and chorizo. They also cater to vegetarians by offering sautéed and seasoned vegetables for filling instead of meat. But the food is only part of the dining experience.
The decoration and bedazzle of intricate Mexican folk-art and detailed floral patterns give this place a rich, authentic feel. The atmosphere is always fun and inviting because of its continuous Spanish-style music playing and the bold colors that cover the chairs, walls, table and floors. Casita Taqueria offers take-out as well as outdoor dining and is clothed with hundreds of colorful Christmas lights both inside and out, making it a great hang out spot during both day and night.
Casita drinks include a wide selection of domestic and Hispanic beers, sangria served with fresh fruit and Hispanic sodas.
This little Mexican gem, located at 2706 4th Street N. in St. Petersburg, can sometimes be easy to miss but once found, is well worth the hunt.
