First impressions are crucial. This is only one of the numerous tips that you can be sure to expect at next week’s job fair.
The on-campus event will be hosted by the USF St. Petersburg Career Center on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 1-4 p.m. in the Student Life Center.
The USF St. Petersburg Career Center will be hosting an on-campus job fair on Thursday, Sept. 1. The event will run from 1-4 p.m. in the Student Life Center.
Students are encouraged to bring resumes to meet with various campus departments. The departments are seeking student workers, as well as filling federal work study positions.
In preparation for the job fair, here are some helpful hints:
Before you get a chance to say anything or hand over your resume, your appearance will be the first thing an employer judges. The USFSP Career Center has released a YouTube video to help inform students of the best outfits to wear when job hunting.
Collared shirts are a must. However, women can opt for blouses, if preferred. Tailored pants work for everyone, and women can sport knee-length skirts or dresses. Simple ties are encouraged for men. Blazers are another way to add professionalism to a look.
Neutral colors should always be worn when job hunting. Bold, bright hues should be left at home, along with shorts, short sleeved tops, open-toed shoes and unruly hair.
Students can perfect their resumes with help from the Career Center. They have provided links on how to create the best resumes and cover letters possible and even have a guide about resumes. Students may also make appointments to meet with a career advisor one-on-one.
The Career Center also offers other services, such as mock interviews, job search strategies, career and major exploration, career consultations, and the Career Closet where students may rent business attire for free.
If you cannot attend this job fair, consider attending the Part-Time Job and Internship Fair on Sept. 7. For more information, see the USFSP Career Services website.
