Adolf Eichmann, one of the Nazis centrally involved in implementing the the plan that sent six million Jews to their death, is the center of a new exhibit at the Holocaust Museum called Operation Finale.
The exhibit is the first of its kind to bring viewers through the capture and trial of a Nazi war criminal.
A documentary about Eichmann on the first floor begins the exhibit before visitors walk upstairs through the story of his capture by Israeli secret service agents.
The six-agent team followed up on a lead that Eichmann was hiding out in a small town in Argentina. This tipoff began a hunt where they observed Eichmann’s routine before capturing him.
The exhibit contains more materials used to capture Eichmann than items that belonged to him, including the fake IDs of operatives, the case file and the map that was used to track Eichmann. However, the items Eichmann had on his person the night he was captured are included.
The exhibit’s finale displays footage of his trial with the screen covered by a glass box to represent the way he stood trial behind bulletproof glass.
The trial segment of the exhibit also contains the press the trial received. There are letters that were sent to Eichmann from fans wishing him a steady trial, as well as a Time magazine issue that mentions the verdict.
In addition to print coverage, the exhibit hosts a room full of radios broadcasting the trial’s verdict in English, German, and Russian, among other languages.
It is great that he was caught and punished, however to many of these murdering SOB’s got away because of the USA’S ignorance and some even worked for our FBI and the like. A book that fully exposes this stupidity is The Nazi’s Next Door.
