The USF System now offers an online degree program in accounting through the USF St. Petersburg Kate Tiedemann College of Business.
Accounting is the largest undergraduate program in the college of business, according to Teresa Conover, professor and director of the accountancy program.
“This program now provides us another option to meet the growing demand of our students as well as businesses in the state,” Conover said in a news release.
Students can earn a Bachelor of Science in accounting in two years if they are a junior, have an associate degree or are pursuing a second degree. However, the studying must be self-paced, Conover said.
“Maybe it will take two years for some, but three or four years for those who want to do the program part-time,” she said in the release.
The program was only expected to draw 15 students when it launched this semester, but according to Conover, 25 students enrolled.
According to the release, students in the program have the same access to “expert faculty, advising and financial aid” as they would if they were to take classes in person. The program will also have kickoff and graduation ceremonies to make students feel more welcomed.
All courses in the program are undergoing a faculty-centered, peer-reviewed Quality Management certification process to ensure they are as rigorous as traditional courses. All online courses in the USF system are scheduled to be QM-certified by 2025, the release said.
