With a break in her busy schedule of show dates, Ella Jet sat down for an interview with The Crow’s Nest at Black Crow Coffee Co. in downtown St. Petersburg for doughnuts and tea to discuss Future Soul and the band’s upcoming album “Love Sound.”
Performing for many years as a solo act, the formation of “Future Soul” is a way for Jet to get out her full artistic vision.
“Future Soul gives me a chance to have all the sounds in my head come out,” Jet said. “The name ‘Future Soul’ was the perfect name to describe our sound, so that’s where the name came from.
On its debut EP, “Black Wave Diary,” the band went for a darker tone, dealing with themes of depression and loss of love. With the new album “Love Sound,” the band is going for a more positive vibe.
“The last album was sad,” she said. “The concept of the new album is love and documenting how to love again.”
On “Love Sound,” the band plans be more hands-on in production.
“With ‘Black Wave Diary,’ we brought in someone to produce the album. But for ‘Love Soul,’ we decided to produce the entire album ourselves giving us total freedom with the music,” Jet said.
After she offered me some of her chocolate doughnut, I wanted to know one message that Jet had for her fans.
“Love yourself first,” she said. “You can’t love anyone else until you learn to love yourself.”
To hold fans over until the release of “Love Sound,” the band plans on releasing a single on Valentine’s Day.
