Students have another month to decide whether they want to live on campus and risk losing their entire housing payment if the university is forced to close again.
In an update sent to residential students on June 24, the Housing and Residential Education office advised students that they have until Aug. 1 to cancel their housing applications with no penalty. This only applies if all of the student’s classes have been moved online.
Previously, the deadline was July 1.
“We now know that class schedules may not be available until the end of the third week in July,” the email said. “We also understand that class format may impact a student’s decision on whether they choose to live on campus.”
At stake is the $5,844 to $11,985 that students pay to live in one of the campus’ three residence halls.
When the campus closed in March, students received a partial refund. But there will be no refunds issued in 2020-2021 if the university is forced to close again.
Cancellations must be submitted to the Housing and Residential Education office by Aug. 1, specifying “all online classes” as the reason for cancellation.
“All of the student’s classes need to be online to be eligible,” the email said.
Housing cancellations are available on the housing website.
