The University of South Florida St. Petersburg now has a Her Campus chapter that focuses on diversity, equality and inclusion and you can join.
In 2009, Her Campus was launched by three Harvard University undergrads: Stephanie Kaplan, Windsor Hanger Western, and Annie Wang. Her Campus was created as an online magazine dedicated to, written by, and focused on empowering collegiate women.
Her Campus is currently the number one media site for college women, and you are now able to join right here on campus. The magazine has over 7,000 contributors from more than 400 college chapters across nine countries.
President Mila Toshanova, a freshman majoring in forensics, and Vice President Izabella Annunziata, a freshman majoring in political science, launched Her Campus at USF St. Petersburg on Jan. 31. They had the idea last semester during a hurricane and now run their own chapter.
Their executive board includes Kelsey Sherman, the events coordinator, Katelyn Gingey, the marketing and publicity coordinator and Madisen Hamai the social media director.
“We want our members to feel accepted, we want them to have a safe space and we want them to have fun,” said Toshanova.
The current goals of Her Campus at USF St. Petersburg is to get more members that are excited to welcome new friends and work with other organizations. They want future and current members to make connections and find new opportunities through the organization.
“Were not allowed to take the her out of Her Campus and it does seem like we’re very closed off and were only for women but that is not who we want to be and what we want to put out there,” said Annunziata.
Even though the name makes it seem that they are an only for women, the organization are very accepting of everyone and want everybody to experience Her Campus.
