A long-awaited road win was brought home by the University of South Florida Bulls in its game last Saturday against the University of Connecticut Huskies with a score of 24-21.
The win was USF’s ninth win out of 19 match ups against the Huskies. The win comes off two straight losses, with the most recent being their homecoming game to FAU.
“I told the guys after the game ‘this is really good evidence of the amount of work you put in and your process being right, gives you a chance at the end to go win’,” head coach Alex Golesh said in the post-game press conference.
The offense started their running game early against the Huskies.
Nay’quan Wright was leader of the Bulls with his second 100-yard rushing game in a row. Wright brought in two of the touchdowns for the game.
The defense showed why its got the recognition it did in the beginning of the season with four turnovers in the game with three fumbles and an interception.
Linebacker Jhalyn Shuler had five tackles on his own with eight total and his second sack on the season, resulting in a 10-yard loss.
As the fourth quarter shined for the Bulls with two touchdowns, quarterback Byrum Brown had one of his own.
Brown had a career pass competition of 27 out of his 29 attempts for 203 yards. Brown also being known for doing well on his feet, ran the ball 14 times for 61 yards.
“Every single day in practice we have a fourth quarter period at the end and the challenge is to go and strain harder for longer and that showed up today,” Golesh said.
As the season hits the halfway mark, the Bulls are now only two games short of a bowl game, something the team hasn’t accomplished since 2018.
As the road to victory continues, the Bulls will take off on its bye week and then go on to play the Memphis Tigers on Nov. 4.
