The University of South Florida baseball team won its American Athletic Conference series opener against Memphis University 2-1 on March 24.

USF closed out the series in a 5-3 outing powered by shortstop Eric Snow’s three-hit performance and led the team with two runs batted in.

Following a 16-7 loss on March 22 in game one, the Bulls redeemed themselves and defeated the Tigers 9-5 on March 23 in game two.

“I think today was a gutty win,” head coach Billy Mohl said in a post-game interview. “The pitchers bounced back from a tough Friday night.”

Pitcher Jack Cerbert secured the win in game three pitching in six innings.  Cerbert allowed in two runs and seven hits but struck out five batters.

Closing pitcher Chandler Dorsey earned his fourth save of the season pitching the last two innings striking out three batters.

With a 2-1 conference record in the American Athletic Conference, USF currently stands in third place behind Florida Atlantic University and Wichita State University.

“Series win I’ll take any day of the week.  It was a good way to start conference play,” Mohl said in a post-game interview.

Montes lands in third in the AAC in batting average, averaging .386 on 88 plate appearances.

Second baseman Bobby Boser leads the conference in slugging percentage with a .800.

Senior catcher Ben Rozenblum also leads the conference in stolen bases and steal attempts at 15 and 17 respectively.
