Students have a new spot to get an after-class treat on campus with the grand opening of Moonlight Boba in 727 Eats in the University Student Center.
Moonlight Boba officially soft-opened on Sept. 13. It took the old location of Blenz Bowls, which opened in fall of 2021, before moving to Lynn Pippenger Hall (LPH), replacing a Starbucks.
It brings a fresh addition to campus dining options with its range of bubble tea beverages. The menu includes tea, milk tea, slushies, smoothies and specialty drinks, with plans to add food in the future.
Upon opening, Moonlight Boba was serving two signature flavors, Brown Sugar Boba and Classic Thai Tea. As of Sept. 23, its full menu is available for purchase via a digital ordering kiosk.
“Overall, a cool 8/10,” said Jalise Martinez, a self-proclaimed boba expert and a senior political science student. “It’s pretty good, but I hope they expand their menu to feature some of the other flavors they offer in other stores.”
She made it clear after that she was referring to their Honeydew Milk Tea, which is not currently on the display menu.
Surprisingly, compared to the closest local restaurants serving boba and bubble tea, Moonlight Boba’s drinks are slightly cheaper than going to a nearby store. For example, Bento, the closest place that served boba on campus, sells their drinks for $6, while Moonlight is between $5-6 per drink.
However, adding the physical boba pearls is an additional $.75 add-on.
Whether you’re a boba enthusiast or new to the beverage, this new campus gem will surely become a favorite stop for students and faculty alike.
Campus bubbles with excitement with the arrival of Moonlight Boba
Update as of Oct. 1:
A week and a half into opening, Moonlight Boba has officially upped the price of multiple of its drinks. The milk tea is now $5.75 (previously $5.50), toppings are now $.75 (previously $.50) and it added a brand new section to the menu titled “Flavored Milk Tea.” Moonlight also clarified at the top of their menu that physical boba pearls are “not included” in all drinks. Consumers are forced to purchase the boba as a topping in order to drink a classic boba beverage.
