The team is warming up for a high-stakes game this weekend with the Charlotte 49ers as both teams try to get ahead in the American Athletic Conference.
The USF offense could have some moments of potential, with a good playmaking core that may look to attack the holes in the Charlotte defense. Speed and versatility characterize USF wide receivers, including Sean Atkins. Payten Singletary will also make a big impact as a tight end, especially in short-yardage situations, while adding more options when the ball is thrown down the field.
But the key to the Bulls success will be to limit turnovers; giving Charlotte extra life might be too expensive. The Bulls’ offensive line faces a stiff test in establishing the run and protecting the pocket against a Charlotte defense that will look to disrupt the rhythm.
On defense, USF has been consistent, but they’ll need to be sharp against a Charlotte offense that thrives off balance. The defensive line for the Bulls needs to stand the test of holding in the trenches against Charlotte as their run game has been effective all this season.
With Max Brown as quarterback, having both power and agility for the arm, the linebackers and secondary players will be essential in shattering his activities. After playing one season at Florida, Brown transferred to Charlotte as a redshirt sophomore. Brown threw for 193 yards and a touchdown was scored in Brown’s recent game against JMU.
The USF defensive unit needs to finesse their assignments well to help eliminate large plays and keep the game’s rhythm in their favor against this hard-hitting opponent.
Special teams may determine the outcome of this game.
Both teams have had their good and bad times during the season in the special teams area, and a big return or crucial field position shift could sway the game. Kickoffs, punts and field goal attempts will likely be thrown at these teams with an emphasis on making no mistakes due to the proximity of controllable/losable.
The Bulls of the University of South Florida are just one or two victories away from earning a spot in the 2024 bowl. To be eligible for a bowl game, teams must win at least six games. The Bulls’ upcoming game against the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday offers a crucial chance to increase their current winning total of five games.
USF will try to win a game that would establish momentum for a strong finish to the season, whereas Charlotte aims to make its own statement.
