It’s not just election season for the nation, but it’s midterm voting time across all USF campuses. For the USF St. Petersburg campus, this means campus council positions were up for grabs.
The campus is allowed nine seats in campus council, alongside nine other council members from the Sarasota-Manatee campus and 12 at the Tampa campus.
“Campus council members in [student government] are responsible for representing the interests of the student body, attending council meetings, and actively participating in discussions on policies, initiatives, and events that impact campus life,” said Janice Bao, the USF St. Petersburg student government advisor.
Bao explained that campus council roles often include advocacy, policy development, committee involvement, event support and accountability.
This midterm election, USF St. Petersburg had five open seats that students are running for, with four others currently taken. This year’s candidates are Junabel Paciencia, Charles Daine, Josephine Combs, Camden Bedinghaus and Brian Quero.
“I want to be a representative for the student body and know everybody on campus wants renewable energy and I want to make our campus more sustainable,” Combs, a sophomore Marine Biology major, told The Crow’s Nest staff reporter, Jenna Nicastro.
