Lacrosse charges into inaugural season

After the USF women’s lacrosse team made a remarkable debut,  defeating Kennesaw State University (KSU) 19-6 at Corbett Stadium, the Bulls secured an 11-8 road victory over Mercer University in Macon, Ga in their second game on Feb. 11. Goalkeeper Paige Pagano played a pivotal role, recording 17 saves, while attacker Maggie Newton netted two goals and one draw. 

The Bulls extended its winning streak on Feb. 14, with a 17-7 triumph against Lehigh University at home. Attacker Ava Uphues showcased her versatility with four goals. 

In their subsequent game on Feb.18, USF faced a formidable opponent in the No. 5 ranked University of Florida Gators. Despite a valiant effort, the Bulls were defeated 18-11. Redshirt sophomore attacker Sofia Chepenik led the team with a season-high five goals, while midfielder Kaitlyn Tartaglione contributed two goals. 

As of Feb. 19 the USF women’s lacrosse team has had a strong start to their inaugural season, with a 3-1 record.

Here are the next games for the USF women’s lacrosse team: 

  • March 2, 2025: vs. St. Bonaventure University at 1:00 PM ET at Corbett Stadium. 
  • March 9, 2025: vs. Xavier University at 1:00 PM ET at Corbett Stadium. 
  • March 11, 2025: vs. Bucknell University at 6:00 PM ET at Corbett Stadium. 

Established in November 2021, the USF women’s lacrosse program is led by eight-time conference coach of the year, Mindy McCord. The team comprises student-athletes pursuing diverse academic paths, including law and chemistry.
