On August 20th, USF St. Petersburg began welcoming students back into the residents halls, with over 1,000 students moving into campus over the weekend. 

Once again, residence halls are expected to be at full capacity.

After three straight days inside, the Buccaneers w After three straight days inside, the Buccaneers were back outdoors Thursday for another day
of padded work at One Buc Place.

The defense once again stole the show.

David Walker continued his impressive camp, making an impact in the backfield throughout
practice and finishing with a would-be sack and a fumble recovery on the final play. Head coach
Todd Bowles praised Walker’s athleticism and speed as he continues returning from a torn ACL.

Josiah Trotter also made one of the biggest plays of the day, stopping Cade Otton short on
fourth down during the two-minute drill.

Meanwhile, the Bucs' run game continued to struggle, with most rushing concepts getting
stuffed at the line. The defense also made an impact in the screen game, including Rueben
Bain Jr., who blew up a Bucky Irving screen.

Emeka Egbuka returned to team drills, while Tez Johnson, Jalen McMillan, Alex Anzalone,
Tristan Wirfs and Vita Vea remained out of team work.

A rainy Sunday forced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ins A rainy Sunday forced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers inside the Adventhealth Training Center for their fourth day of training camp. It was a tough start to the week as the team prepares to begin practicing in full gear this week. 

The defense dominated the whole practice with constant pressure on the quarterbacks. Buccaneers starter Baker Mayfield attempted to connect on a deep pass play to Jalen McMillan, but he was intercepted by Antoine Winfield Jr. Ifeatu Melifonwu contributed to another takeaway after he pressured a pass from Jake Browning. The passing game was hard-pressed, with players like David Walker, Rueben Bain Jr., Yaya Diaby, Al-Quadin Muhammad, and Chris Braswell getting would-be sacks. 

Some players shining in this practice include linebacker Caden Fordham, who recorded a sack and broke up a probable touchdown pass during red zone practice. In terms of offensive players, David Sills V had a great day. He tallied three touchdowns, including a long catch-and-run, and scored his other two during red zone practice reps.

Baker Mayfield Leads Strong Offensive Showing on D Baker Mayfield Leads Strong Offensive Showing on Day 3 of Buccaneers Training Camp

Fans showed up to the Advent Health Training Center Friday morning to watch quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue their offseason program. The offense's improvement was led by the starting quarterback and his highlight-worthy connection with wide receiver Emeka Egbuka for a deep touchdown. 

New backup quarterback signing Jake Browning also continued to develop chemistry with the team's young wide receivers, including a recurring connection with Tez Johnson, and running back Bucky Irving was pivotal to the day's improved run game. 

Injury updates include All-Pro tackle Tristan Wirfs, who did not practice today due to a hamstring injury. Defensive tackle Vita Vea remains out due to a back injury. An interesting development as he requested a trade from the team due to stalled contract talks between the two sides. Defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson was given a maintenance day. 

Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. spoke after practice about his leadership, feeling a new responsibility to be more vocal and continue growing with the team in year seven and after the retirement of Levonte David and departure of other key veterans. 

Offensive guard Cody Mauch stated that he feels 100% healthy for the coming season. Big news for an offensive line that struggled with injury issues last season.

The Buccaneers will get a rest day on Saturday before hitting the practice field again on Sunday.

The Crow’s Nest decided to find out at the Rowdies Training Facility in Tampa. There, the island nation of Cabo Verde prepares for its third match against Saudi Arabia.  
  
Cabo Verde has become the story of the World Cup, drawing with two former World Cup champions, Spain and Uruguay. 
 
Midfielder Kevin Pina, — who scored Cabo Verde’s first ever World Cup goal against Uruguay — says the historic wins have not changed the team’s mindset. 
 
“The mentality is similar to the last two games, we want to win and we want to evolve,” Pina said during the team’s June 24 practice.  
  
The most attention, however, has gone to the team’s 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha, who made seven saves in the nil-nil draw against Spain. Vozinha has gained over 15 million Instagram followers since the match.    
  
A win against Saudi Arabia tonight would send Cabo Verde to the knockout stages in their first ever world cup appearance.   
 
“First time here, and, we hope, not the last to come here,” Blue Sharks defender Diney Borges said.  
  
Tune into Cabo Verde’s match against at 8pm to find out if Tampa’s team extends their stay in the Bay.

According to the latest email sent by USF Presiden According to the latest email sent by USF President Moez Limayem, the Florida Legislature has concluded work on the proposed 2026-27 state budget. The proposal includes more than $22 million for the University of South Florida to continue operating its Sarasota-Manatee campus during the transition of facilities to New College of Florida, along with a $57.7 million funding package for university operations, facilities and special initiatives.

The finalized budget is expected to be approved by lawmakers and sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is expected to make a decision before the fiscal year ends June 30.

The race for the next St. Petersburg mayor is a pa The race for the next St. Petersburg mayor is a packed one, with six candidates in the running, including the sitting mayor, Kenneth T. Welch and former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who was the latest to file as of April 27. 

Other candidates include long-serving public administrator Maria Scruggs, District 2 Councilwoman Brandi Gabbard, retired St. Petersburg Fire Chief Jim Large and former Shore Acres Neighborhood Association President Kevin Batdorf. 

The Crow’s Nest spoke to four of the seven candidates, who expanded on their campaign ideals and spoke of what they want the future of the city to look like.

Fire crews are actively responding to a fire at th Fire crews are actively responding to a fire at the Marine Science Laboratory (MSL). 

While the cause is unclear, The Crow’s Nest received reports of either a chemical fire or a lightning strike as the cause.

At approximately 5 p.m., USF St. Petersburg students were met with sirens and a scene of smoke billowing from the peninsula of the St. Petersburg campus. University faculty and staff working near the area are being evacuated. 

The MSL is among the oldest buildings on the St. Petersburg campus, where the campus’s first classes were held in 1965. 

It was originally opened in 1939 as a maritime service training station. It currently houses research labs and faculty offices for the Marine Science Program.

This is a developing story.
