In a game relocated to Camping World Stadium in Orlando due to Hurricane Milton, the Memphis Tigers came out victorious over the University of South Florida Bulls with a 21-3 win.

The first half saw Memphis take control early.

Quarterback Seth Henigan connected with his receivers consistently, leading to a touchdown by running back Mario Anderson Jr.

However, the game took a turn when running back Anderson Jr. was ejected for spitting at defensive tackle Doug Blue-Eli, leaving Memphis to rely on their depth for the remainder of the game.

USF’s quarterback Bryce Archie, was called to step up in Byrum Brown’s absence due to an injury. Coach Golesh praised Archie’s performance stating “For Bryce to come in, we knew we had to throw the ball. He managed the game well, took care of the football, and showed confidence. I’ve known him since high school, and I trust him completely.”

USF struggled offensively, managing only a single 52-yard field goal from kicker Nico Grammatica right before halftime.

The second half began with the Bulls receiving the kickoff, but their drive fell apart, leading to a turnover.

Defensive back Tavin Ward provided a bright spot with his snag interception, momentarily shifting momentum in the Bulls’ favor.

Throughout the game, Henigan demonstrated his leadership, managing the tempo and executing plays effectively. Running back Brandon Thomas complemented Henigan’s efforts with a strong performance in the backfield, showcasing consistent running that helped the Tigers control time of possession.

After a safety awarded to Memphis following a fumble by USF’s Joshua Porter, the Tigers sealed their victory.

Coach Golesh noted the importance of giving younger players the opportunity to play.

“We played a lot of guys tonight, and I told the coaches to play the fresh guys. It doesn’t matter if they’re freshmen; if they’re ready, they’ll give you everything they’ve got. They need to play to grow and develop,” Golesh stated.

The next home game for USF will take place at Raymond James Stadium on Oct. 19 at 3:30 p.m. for homecoming.

This anticipated matchup is expected to draw a significant crowd as fans return to support the Bulls in their hopes of victory.

Hurricane Milton’s effects were felt across Tampa, impacting communities and families, and the football game served as a temporary distraction from the current state of the city.

Coach Alex Golesh took a moment to reflect upon the spirit of community.

“Tampa is really special to me. [My wife and I] got married here and have vacationed here forever. I didn’t fully appreciate it until we lived here this past year and a half. There’s a strong sense of community and pride in this place,” Golesh said.
