Every year, the United States commemorates the 2,9 Every year, the United States commemorates the 2,977 lives that were lost in 9/11. 

The Crow's Nest had the opportunity to speak with veteran and military-connected students to get their perspective on the impact 9/11 had on themselves and those around them.

USF opened its 30th season with a 19-9 win over FI USF opened its 30th season with a 19-9 win over FIU. 

Although USF's offense struggled to push (with USF scoring a single touchdown during the game) kicker Nico Gramatica pulled off a 13-point performance that pushed USF into victory. 

The game was also the first under new head-coach Brian Hartline, giving him a win during his debut with the Bulls.

Get excited bulls — the first ever annual USF St. Get excited bulls — the first ever annual USF St. Petersburg Balloon Drop is here! 

When the clock struck 7:50 p.m. Friday of the first week on campus, students on the first floor of Lynn Pippenger Hall were overflowing in balloons and excitement for the fall semester. 

The tradition is a first for USF St. Pete, with USF Tampa being the campus to originally host it. It is a way for bulls to build their school spirit and start the year with confidence. 

The night was a night to remember. Students and staff all came together to celebrate the beginning of the 2026 school year. 

Providing entertainment was a DJ, Rocky D. Bull, the USF SunDolls, and the All-Girls cheerleading team. Spirit games were also played on stage that gave out prizes to students who wore the most USF swag or won a game of “Guess that Tune”. 

Many speakers took the stage to preach bull pride, including the USF St. Pete Student Government. 

The last speaker was USF St. Pete’s newest president himself, President Moez Limayem. He gave away T-shirts and hosted a raffle for four $500 dollar scholarships to be given out to students in the crowd. 

Limayem started the countdown for the drop, with every student turning their attention toward the massive nets filled with green, white, and gold balloons on the roof of the building. 

The excitement continued at “The Balloon Drop After Party” located at the Edge which was hosted by Student Government. The new tradition marks a stronger school spirit for the USF St. Pete campus.

Let’s Get on Board, Bulls! On Thursday, Aug. 27, Let’s Get on Board, Bulls! 

On Thursday, Aug. 27, USF St. Petersburg students gathered around the USC Ballrooms to attend the semesterly Get on Board Day event, hosted by the Leadership & Student Organizations Office (LSO). 

With over 90 tables hosting a mixture of student organizations and university departments, Get on Board Day hosts all kinds of opportunities for students to get involved. 

As always, Snowbird was a special guest of the event. The beloved campus comfort dog made his appearance around the tables on Thursday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rally from a 9-0 halftime The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rally from a 9-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 16-15 at Raymond James Stadium on August 22nd 

Quarterback Jalon Daniels led Tampa Bay’s comeback, going 9-of-14 for 71 yards and a touchdown. He directed three second-half scoring drives, including a 2-yard TD pass to tight end Ko Kieft. Running back Sean Tucker added a 1-yard rushing touchdown, while kicker B.T. Potter connected on a 46-yard field goal.

For Kansas City, kicker Harrison Butker made three first-half field goals, including a 69-yarder, but missed an extra point and a potential game-winning 43-yard field goal in the second half.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield started for Tampa Bay and finished 2-of-4 for 10 yards, while quarterback Jake Browning went 9-of-12 for 84 yards.

The Buccaneers improve to 2-0 in the preseason.

Welcome home, Bulls! 🤘 On August 20th, USF St. Pe Welcome home, Bulls! 🤘

On August 20th, USF St. Petersburg began welcoming students back into the residents halls, with over 1,000 students moving into campus over the weekend. 

Once again, residence halls are expected to be at full capacity. 

The Crow’s Nest wishes you a successful fall semester, and we look forward to being part of your journey.
