“[The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is] really to show our support and help build community and camaraderie with the first responders that are putting on this event at the Rowdies Stadium and to showcase our office and give the student veterans here and miliary-connected students something positive to do that day and a feeling of belonging,” veteran and junior personal financial planning major Thomas Wells said. Get excited bulls — the first ever annual USF St. Get excited bulls — the first ever annual USF St. Petersburg Balloon Drop is here!

When the clock struck 7:50 p.m. Friday of the first week on campus, students on the first floor of Lynn Pippenger Hall were overflowing in balloons and excitement for the fall semester.

The tradition is a first for USF St. Pete, with USF Tampa being the campus to originally host it. It is a way for bulls to build their school spirit and start the year with confidence.

The night was a night to remember. Students and staff all came together to celebrate the beginning of the 2026 school year.

Providing entertainment was a DJ, Rocky D. Bull, the USF SunDolls, and the All-Girls cheerleading team. Spirit games were also played on stage that gave out prizes to students who wore the most USF swag or won a game of “Guess that Tune”.

Many speakers took the stage to preach bull pride, including the USF St. Pete Student Government.

The last speaker was USF St. Pete’s newest president himself, President Moez Limayem. He gave away T-shirts and hosted a raffle for four $500 dollar scholarships to be given out to students in the crowd.

Limayem started the countdown for the drop, with every student turning their attention toward the massive nets filled with green, white, and gold balloons on the roof of the building.

The excitement continued at “The Balloon Drop After Party” located at the Edge which was hosted by Student Government. The new tradition marks a stronger school spirit for the USF St. Pete campus.
