Students show support for ballot referenda – Archive

The USF St. Petersburg general elections ended April 7, with 8.03 percent of students voting, according to Rachhanil Thong, supervisor of elections. During the fall semester’s midterm elections, 5.89 percent of students voted.

This year’s ballot included two referenda. One asked students if they support the proposed Student Green Energy Fee. Seventy two percent voted “yes” and 28 percent voted “no.” The second referendum read “Do you believe the USF St. Petersburg Student Body should be represented on the USF Board of Trustees with a dedicated seat for the USFSP Student Government President?” Ninety seven percent of voters said “yes” and 3 percent said “no.”

In this semester’s 2011-12 general election, the total number of voters was 3,812, and the total votes cast was 306. For the fall semester’s 2010 midterm election, the total number of voters was 4,044, and the total votes cast was 238.

Current SG Senators Courtney Parish and Mark Lombardi-Nelson ran uncontested for the SG president and vice president position, respectively.

Eighteen SG senators were elected: Brian Bauroth, Lauren Reilly, Jonathon Ellington, Franklin Mathis, James Scott, April Parsons, Evan Garrett, Daniel McDonald, Anthony Patterson, Cory Hebert, Emily Gorman, Jeffrey Pincus, Walter Shelmet, Jericka Knox, Eliana Aguilar, Irena Krasteva, Michelle Kerr and Stephen Goodwin.
