SEAS Earth Day Events

Earth Day will not go unnoticed this year at USF St. Petersburg.
The members of the Student Environmental Awareness Society, SEAS, have planned a three day set of activities this year to make sure the holiday is recognized.
The events are scheduled for April 17, 18 and 22, which is Earth Day. Students can expect eco-friendly activities such as the opportunity to make and paint paper mache globes from recycled newspaper, an introduction to the seed bomb and an outdoor movie showing of “Water’s Journey: Everglades” on Wednesday night.
There are two guest speakers lined up for the week: David White, director of the National Wildlife Federation’s Gulf of Mexico Restoration Campaign, and Terry Tomalin, the outdoors writer for the Tampa Bay Times.
An impressive amount of work goes into coordinating a series of events like this. SEAS President Catie Wonders said it takes a lot of little pieces to come together.
“One little break in that link can ruin an entire day,” she said.
Event coordination involves permits for location, catering, parking, the use of AV systems and more. The last two meetings ran for two hours to finish up the Earth Day planning. Only eight members attended. That is why SEAS is looking for more students to join the organization to lend a helping hand.
“This is the biggest week of our year,” said Vice President Brandi Murphy.
Murphy has been with SEAS for almost two years and intends to run for president when Catie graduates at the end of the year.
