Local weekend guide

By Emily Wehunt

Staff Reporter

Downtown St. Petersburg is a bustling city with plenty of ways to stay entertained on the weekends. Whether you are a local, new to the city or even a commuter – here are some ideas to get out of the library and out on the town.

ARTpool Gallery & Vintage Boutique

ARTpool is a unique multifunctional space that houses fun-funky fashions, vintage decor, vinyls, a variety of artwork and gifts. ARTpool has monthly themed events – like a Gatsby Gala. Indie markets are also hosted each weekend from 11 a.m to 5 p.m.  Stop by to shop, look around or get a bite to eat at their cafe.

St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Courts

The historic St.Petersburg Shuffleboard courts have been a city staple since the early ’20s. The courts are opened throughout the week, but on Fridays from 7 to 11 p.m. you can play for FREE!

Community Cafe
Community Cafe, a relatively newer addition to St.Pete, is open until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The cafe offers an assortment of beverages including coffee, tea, beer and wine. This vegetarian-friendly bistro is a great place to hang out with friends, breakout the board games or, if you must, get some studying done.

Breweries

Hop over to a local brewery. Greenbench Brewing, 3 Daughters Brewing, Cycle Brewing, St. Pete Brewing – take your pick. All of these local breweries are lively on the weekends and have a mixture of brews at reasonable prices.

Sports Events

Go cheer on the Rays or Rowdies! St. Pete hosts two sports teams right in our backyard. Home Rays games are played at Tropicana Field, 1 Tropicana Drive and home Rowdies are played at Al Lang Stadium, 230 1st St SE.

Sunken Gardens
Take a relaxing stroll through the Sunken Gardens. A four-acre botanical garden leaves plenty of room for exploring.

Beaches

Of course, when all else fails, just hit up the 35 miles of white, sandy beaches along the Gulf.
