Affordable housing is difficult to find. It’s even harder to find if you have certain criteria as a student making your way through college with loans and a part-time job that just doesn’t seem to pay enough. You may require a place that is close to campus, so that you don’t need to rely on a car. You might also need a roommate or two to split the cost.

Don’t just browse the internet and make phone calls. We talked to fellow classmates about what they think of surrounding neighborhoods and apartment complexes. They’ll tell it like it is, and they won’t try to sell the place to you by bragging about the size of the pool.

Here are some of the housing options your fellow Bulls have been talking about:

Palmway Village

411 77th Ave. N

Just 15 minutes from campus, this apartment complex offers two floor plans: 1 bed/1 bath ranging from $675-$705 and 2 bed/2 bath from $785-$795. If you don’t have a car, you can take the Route 4 bus that shoots straight across Fourth Street and stops directly in front of USF St. Petersburg’s campus near the butterfly garden.

Reserve at Lake Pointe

5800 Lynn Lake Drive S

Only a 10 minute drive from campus, this community rests along the beautiful Lake Pointe. There are 18 different floorplans to choose from, some complete with washer and dryer connections, walk-in closets, privately fenced patios, and gourmet kitchens for all of you foodies. Community amenities include a clothes and car-care center, covered parking, private lakes for fishing, and a coffee bar. Unfortunately, you have to call for specific pricing, but with so many different floor plan options you’re bound to find something affordable.

Urban Style Flats

300 10th St. S

These apartments are just over a mile away from campus, next to Tropicana Field and temptingly close to a Domino’s Pizza. It’s undergoing some renovations, which are expected to bring a fresher vibe to these already young, modern apartments. A 1 bed/1 bath is usually $750-$850 a month, but that price is all inclusive.

Time Square Properties
Many students have suggested contacting Time Square Properties. The housing is local and historic, the cost is all-inclusive, and the owners are easy to work with. Some students are able to pay as low as $600 a month and walk to campus in 10 minutes.

Some students have found more convenience in renting a house with a handful of friends. After checking out these options, consider searching through Craigslist and websites like Trulia.com, where you can run an advanced search based on your criteria.
