Students gather to celebrate Black culture

To celebrate Black culture, the Multicultural Activities Council hosted their annual Black History Showcase. The purpose of the showcase was to celebrate black culture and highlight people who have had a major impact on the African American community such as Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges.

As a compliment to the videos, several USFSP students performed in the showcase. The student performers included spoken word artist who talked on what it’s like to black in America as a male and a female and the importance of loving the skin you are in. There also was a performance by the USFSP Gospel Choir who taught the audience the history of gospel music and performed John Legend and Common’s Grammys winning song Glory from the movie Selma.

But the highlight of the night came from USFSP step team.

In their debut performance, The Herd Step Team stomped down the house. The performance included both traditional and modern dance moves. Some of the chants that were said during the performance included “ No Justice No Peace” a tribute to the ongoing battle of social justice.
