Four actresses used their talents to address the topic of sexual assault April 10 to an audience of around 30 at USF St. Petersburg.

The actresses — Eugenie Bondurant, Mimi Rice, Stephanie Roberts and Vanesa Rendon — played two different mother-daughter duos: Roberts as the mother of Rendon, and as Rice as the mother of Bondurant.

The first act started with all four women talking over each other while seeming overly frustrated with life.

Both began arguing with their mothers about not want to marry because they did not see why one must marry a man if they are not happy.

The play illustrated traditional marriage and how taboo the topic of spousal abuse has been over the years.

“Every three minutes a woman is beaten, every five minutes a woman is raped, every 10 minutes a woman is molested,” Roberts said.

As the scenes switched from one act to the next, the topic continued to tie into the sexual assault of women.

The four women stated  again and again: “Every three minutes, every five minutes, every day.”

Over the course of the nine acts, they continued to show that the importance of this topic hasn’t grown, but instead, the social norms have evolved to make it more visible to our society.
