Remote classes throughout the USF system will continue through the summer semesters due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The update was quietly announced March 30 on the university’s student coronavirus FAQ page.

“USF will deliver a full schedule of online courses throughout Summer sessions A, B, and C, so that continuing students can maintain their academic progress and new students can begin their journey at the university,” the website says. “To the extent that conditions permit, we may add complementary on-campus delivery of instruction and support services in Summer session B.”

According to Carrie O’Brion, marketing and communications director at USF St. Petersburg, the university has also been exploring virtual options for students who want to take internships over the summer.

O’Brion said that it is too early to say whether the summer commencement will be affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The news comes three days after the university moved its new student orientations online through August. On March 26, the university also announced that all residential students must move out of their dorms by noon on April 6 unless they qualified for an exception.

As of March 31, the number of reported cases of COVID-19 — the disease caused by the novel coronavirus — in the USF community remains at six, with the latest case being a campus resident at USF St. Petersburg.
