My first weekend on campus as a student was spent attending Week of Welcome events and interviewing students while still unpacking my dorm room.

I remember picking up the first issue of the semester the following Monday and seeing my byline in bold ink on the front page.

That’s when I knew that The Crow’s Nest was something special.

From that point on, The Crow’s Nest became part of my weekly routine of attending meetings, writing stories and spending all day Sundays working as a team. Those Sundays were tied to many fun and nerve-wracking memories that ultimately brought us together as a group.

I aspired to write as much as possible and work on improving my writing skills. I served several positions that led to the development of new skills and strengths.

The experience opened the doors to internships that I otherwise didn’t think I had a chance at obtaining. This built confidence that I didn’t see in myself before and a sense of optimism for future opportunities.

I look back and realize that working for The Crow’s Nest made my college experience worth something. It provided me with a platform to share my ideas, interview key people in the community and develop lasting friendships.

My three-year journey is up, but The Crow’s Nest will always be a part of my life. It’s time for this bird to leave The Nest, but I look forward to joining the flock of graduates who will soar into their careers.
