A new lieutenant governor for St. Petersburg’s Student Government has been appointed to replace Isaiah Castle, who resigned March 18.

Livia Rosales, a senior marketing major and leadership minor, has been serving as Gov. Andrea Campos’ chief of staff. Rosales also serves as the president of USF St. Petersburg’s Ambassadors, an orientation leader and a peer coach. She also previously served as SG’s director of events.

Rosales, if confirmed, will serve until SG’s newly elected governor and lieutenant governor, Veronica Jimenez and Eran Fruehauf, start their positions in May. Jimenez and Fruehauf will be inaugurated in late April.

Campos nominated Rosales to the position.

Rosales said she was surprised to be nominated “but there were no doubts in mind as I accepted the nomination.”

“For the remainder of the semester, it is my goal to complete the initiatives that were set out in the beginning of the term, and to work even more closely with Gov. Campos to finish the term off strong,” Rosales said.

A confirmation hearing was held at 6 p.m. on March 25 via Microsoft Teams. Rosales was confirmed for the position in a unanimous vote by the representatives of the St. Petersburg Campus Council.

Rosales’ appointment comes just one week after Castle’s resignation. Castle had been under Title IX investigation, and was placed under disciplinary probation at the end of the investigation. SG’s constitution does not allow students on probation to participate in the organization.

“Overall, the transition (to lieutenant governor) has been going pretty smooth,” Rosales said of her appointment. “I am fairly confident and very excited about stepping into this role in such a short matter of time.”
