If you are 18 or older and a Florida resident, you will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine starting on April 5.
Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the news in a video on Twitter, where he detailed the progress Florida has made on vaccine distribution and the extension of vaccine eligibility.
“Florida’s seniors first vaccine policy is paying off,” DeSantis said. “More than 3.2 million seniors aged 65 and older have received shots. We’ve been able to expand eligibility to those 50 and above and we’ve seen additional success.
“Because of this success, I am pleased to announce additional vaccine eligibility expansions.”
DeSantis said that the minimum age for vaccine eligibility, which is 50, will be lowered to 40 on March 29. Then, all adult Florida residents will be eligible a week later.
The news comes after the Florida Department of Health reported a significant increase in cases among young people ages 15 to 34 following spring break.
According to the New York Times, 26 percent of Florida residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
