The University of South Florida Bulls football team — split into a white team and a green team — went head-to-head for the annual spring game last Saturday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Starting quarterback Timmy McClain — who threw for 105 yards and one interception — led the white team to a 17-14 comeback victory over their fellow teammates.
The green team had the opportunity to even the score as time expired but missed the game-tying field goal.
Despite the loss, the green team’s quarterback Katravis Marsh showcased a promising skillset, as the sophomore threw for 124 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Green team’s wide receiver, Xavier Weaver, secured four passes for 54 yards and a touchdown.
“Whenever we split into two teams, both sides play well,” head coach Jeff Scott told his team in the postgame huddle. “Imagine what we can do together. That’s what we’re going to do in October.”
“We’re getting to that tipping point as a program. We’re going to get on the other side of this moving forward.”
The spring game also featured a star-studded alumni flag football game during halftime, resulting in a friendly, yet competitive, reunion amongst generations worth of USF football.
“It was a lot fun,” Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and former Bull, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, told The Crow’s Nest.
Raymond James Stadium saw over 5,000 fans in attendance — a new spring game record for the program –– and the crowd enjoyed a firework show following the game.
