The University of South Florida will name its new indoor performance facility The Porter Family Indoor Performance Facility, in honor of philanthropist J.D. Porter, who donated $5.1 million.

“The impact of J.D.’s gift is truly transformational for our university. As we continue to challenge for conference and national championships, this facility will be a key element and it would not have been possible without the Porter family,” USF Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly said in a press release.

As founders of the Wiregrass Ranch foundation and the James H. & Martha M. Porter Alzheimer’s Research Equipment Operating Fund in support of USF’s collaborative research of Alzheimer’s disease, the Porter family seeks to support communities in Pasco County and the Tampa Bay region through philanthropy.

Officially opening last Tuesday, the 88,000 square foot facility features locker rooms, a video work area, a strength and conditioning center, an outdoor plaza and a 100-yard turf field.

“The Porter Family Indoor Performance Facility will be a game-changer for our student-athletes as they prepare for their next competition – especially on days with inclement weather,” USF President, Rhea Law said in a press release.

The opening of the $22 million dollar facility is a part of USF Athletics Department’s master plan, which is projected to be completed by the 2026 season. The plan includes the development of new facilities such, baseball and softball clubhouse and field, golf practice facility and field, a track and field stadium and football stadium.
