The University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus saw a packed ballroom for yesterday afternoon’s inauguration of the university’s newest president, Rhea Law.
The ceremony was hosted by St. Petersburg’s Regional Chancellor Christian Hardigree and featured appearances from a variety of Tampa Bay’s most influential figures. St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch, USF Board of Trustees Chair Melissa Seixas and Pinellas County Commissioner Brian Scott were all in attendance.
After a variety of speeches from guests, Hardigree presented Law with a video set to Katrina and the Wave’s “Walking on Sunshine.” The tribute showed the St. Petersburg community congratulating Law on her new position.
“President Law, we appreciate you, we value you, we are a better community because of you and your leadership, and I for one, and on behalf of this campus, cannot wait to see what the future brings,” Hardigree said afterwards.
Following a short intermission, Law took the stage and discussed the recent triumphs for USF St. Petersburg. Full on-campus housing and the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance’s recent advancements in FinTech were both mentioned.
Finally, Law finished the celebration with the reveal of unique art posters handed out to each attendee.
The colorful posters feature three unique illustrations designed by Brooklyn-based artist Rico Gatson. Each individual artwork represents one of USF’s three campuses, which, according to Law, represents, “the power of the entire team of the University of South Florida.”
Additional Inaugural events will be hosted at the Sarasota-Manatee and Tampa campuses throughout the week.
