Texas’s “damn good tacos” has made its way to Florida, with the opening of Austin-based restaurant chain Torchy’s Tacos in St. Petersburg.
The tex-mex restaurant had its grand opening on Feb. 1. Located in Tyrone Square at 2314 Tyrone Blvd N, St. Petersburg is Torchy’s Tacos first Florida location, a stepping stone towards the company’s goal to expand their east coast presence.
“Florida really hit the mark for us in terms of its culture, its love of food, the vibe,” said Marisa Patterson, Torchy’s Tacos communications manager. “It lines up with Torchy’s perfectly.” Another location in Altamonte Springs is set to open later this year.
The “Damn good tacos,” featured on the restaurant’s menu include breakfast tacos that are served all day and tacos such as the popular Trailer Park composed of fried chicken, green chiles, pico de gallo and cheddar cheese on a hand-crafted flour tortilla. Other house favorite items include, the green chile queso and chips, Mexican rice, grande burrito and the new scratch made churros.
On Jan. 30, two days before the grand opening, Torchy’s Tacos hosted a community preview party for St. Petersburg residents to get a taste of the new restaurant ahead of the opening. The event featured complimentary meals, music, and merchandise and Torchy’s welcomed a high turnout. “Everybody here has been incredible,” Patterson said. “We are so thankful for the St. Pete community for coming out, especially since this is the first Torchy’s in Florida.”
