University of South Florida’s football team put its spring practice skills to the test on the field Friday, April 14 at Corbett Stadium with the debut of head coach Alex Golesh.

The Green team brought home the victory against the White team 18-6 in the spring game showing fans what they expect to come this fall.

“That was super cool for our kids to see what people in Tampa excited about football looks like,” Golesh told the media.

Alumni players, food trucks and even face painting brought fans of all ages into the soccer stadium.

With the momentum around the new staff this year, Corbett Stadium reached its 4,000 people capacity around 7:30 P.M. during the game’s first quarter, having to lock the gates.

“All fans yet to arrive will be directed to the baseball stadium where the game will be streamed on ESPN+,” said USF Football in a tweet.

Regardless of where fans watched the game, the hard work of the team and staff did not go unnoticed. According to Coach Golesh, he told the media he has been here for four months and 11 days working hard with the players.

“We are working really hard and we are selling this thing as hard as we can,” Golesh said.

Despite the fun, the Bulls are still trying to find a first-string quarterback.

Bryce Archie, a spring transfer from Coastal Carolina, is one of those quarterbacks hoping to get that starting position.

“Competition is there,” said Archie. “At the end of the day, we want the best guy out there.”

Byrum Brown showed his talents as well as he competes for the starting position.

Brown told the media his game changed to become more poise, calm, and levelheaded on the field.

“At the end of the day, I’m just trying to be the best Byrum, best person, best quarterback I can be,” said Brown.

Coach Golesh is not to decide on a quarterback yet as he told the media after Gerry Bohanon was on the sidelines this past Friday.

“Gerry hasn’t had a chance to compete yet,” Golesh said

Bohanon, senior quarterback, has been out with an injury since October after taking a hit to the shoulder in last season’s game against Tulane.

Coach Golesh said Bohanon is throwing a football now and ahead of his rehab schedule.

“We are a 1-11 football team that’s fighting like crazy to get to where we got to go,” said Golesh.

Golesh’s mindset is strong in his belief in bringing South Florida to the top of the conference.
