Redshirt freshman quarterback Byrum Brown impressed the nation after being named the offensive player of the week in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and earning national honors.

Brown not only received offensive player of the week, but he also received national recognition with selection to the Davey O’Brien Award “Great 8” Quarterbacks and Manning Award “Stars of the Week” after the week four victory against Rice.

In the conference game opener, Brown completed 22 out of 29 passes for 435 yards, three touchdowns, and a two-point conversion. Brown also did not throw an interception in the past game.

As the leading rusher in the AAC, Brown is running 89.3 yards per game.

Brown also had 517 total yards against the Owls this past Saturday. Only one other Bull, Quinton Flowers, has put up 500 yards in a game and leads the nation in rushing yards. This is the most any player has in the nation in week four.

“Now he’s seeing the results of what’s a really long process for him and he’s been not settling for anything,” head coach Alex Golesh said in this week’s press conference.

With only has six college starts under his belt, Brown continues to show his coaches and team what he is capable of.

“You’re watching him grow as we are watching him grow and he’s gotten better every week,” Golesh said.

Brown now has 18 touchdowns in his college career starts as an 18-year-old starting quarterback. This is the most by any USF quarterback.

A leader on the scored boards, Brown is also a leader to his team on and off the field.

“I’ve always been the youngest in the class, so I felt like I was viewed as leader in those classes as well,” Brown said in the press conference. “Taking that to college and into sports as well is just something I’ve done from an early age and I’m going to continue to do.”

As Brown turns 19 years old this Friday, he will spend his birthday as a normal day before a football game, watching film and getting ready for his next game.

The Bulls will play on the road Saturday, Sept. 30 against Navy in Annapolis, Maryland with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS Sports Network.
