The process of finding a new University of South Florida president is already underway. Judy Genshaft announced her retirement Monday and the next president will take office July 1.

In the Board of Trustees meeting Sept. 10, the board’s chair Brian Lamb discussed the process and timeline of hiring the next USF president.

“I fully expect it to be a national search to right the right talent, the right leader to move into this role on July 1,” Lamb said. “I fully expect…for this to be transparent, not only because Sunshine (Law), but because it is the right thing to do.

“There’s nothing to indicate or suggest nor has the board given me the indication or direction that we want to change our strategic priorities because we’re going to have a change in our presidential role.”

The search committee will be announced Friday. There will be no more than 15 members and at least three will be trustees.

“I obviously will be working hard to fill out that search committee so that it is diverse, that it is representative of the statutory requirements, representative of the geography and the campuses that we have, and is thoughtful around key stakeholders like students and alumni and our foundation and other stakeholders…,” Lamb said.

Here’s a rough timeline as outlined by Lamb in the BOT meeting.

September: Within the next seven to 10 business days and after the search committee is announced, the search committee chair will hire a search firm.

October- December: The search committee will meet at least three or four times. They will meet with the search firm to discuss process, criteria and expectations for the role as well as monetary compensation. They will review reports and candidates.

End of December – January: The search committee will review applications and select candidates for on-campus interviews.

February: There will be a robust interview process on campus.

February- March: The search committee will present to the BOT.

March-April: The search committee will meet with with Board of Governors to confirm the selection and recommendation.

An official written and detailed timeline will be published after the selection of the search committee this week.
